The Green Finance Platform welcomes the Climate Policy Initiative, together with the Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance and the Cities Climate Finance Leadership Alliance, as a new partner in green finance knowledge.

The Climate Policy Initiative is an international climate policy organization launched in 2009 on the concept that nations building low-carbon economies need support in developing and implementing effective climate and energy policies. CPI works to improve, with a particular focus on finance, critical energy policies around the world. Through its finance-related work, CPI looks for ways for nations and the world to achieve sufficient levels of, and effective use of, public and private investment to reduce climate risk. This work includes:

  • Mapping global financial flows to better understand and identify gaps in finance sources, uses, intermediaries and instruments
  • Conducting in-depth analysis on how to align solutions with the risks, returns and business models of various investors
  • Identifying ways to achieve market transformation by reducing the cost of financing activities that reduce climate risk
  • Advising national governments and the international finance community on how to make the best use of existing funds as well as provide practical pathways to systemic change

CPI’s Global Landscape of Climate Finance, which has set the benchmark for climate finance tracking, provides the most comprehensive overview of global climate-related primary investment.

CPI leads the Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance, which solicits, shapes and tests cutting-edge climate finance instruments that resolve financing barriers hindering alternative energy, adaptation and land use projects. Instruments from the lab have mobilized more than $2 billion in sustainable investment to date.

CPI hosts the secretariat of the Cities Climate Finance Leadership Alliance (CCFLA), a multi-level and multi-stakeholder coalition aimed at closing the investment gap for urban subnational climate projects and infrastructure. The alliance provides a platform to convene and exchange knowledge among all relevant actors dedicated to urban development, climate action and/or financing.
