The International Capital Market Association (ICMA) has joined the Green Finance Platform as a new partner in green finance knowledge.

ICMA is the trade association for the international capital market with over 580 member firms from more than 60 countries, including banks, issuers, asset managers, infrastructure providers and law firms. It performs a central role in the market by providing industry-driven standards and recommendations for issuance, trading and settlement in international fixed-income and related instruments. ICMA liaises closely with regulatory and governmental authorities, both at the national and supranational level, to help to ensure that financial regulation promotes the efficiency and cost effectiveness of the capital market.

ICMA is deeply involved in sustainable and green finance and is the Secretariat of the Green and Social Bond Principles, which represent the best market practice in debt capital markets for raising funds for green and sustainable projects. The initiative consists of over 300 members and observers; members are institutions that have issued, underwritten, placed, or invested in a green, social or sustainability bond.

ICMA is also a member of the Technical Expert Group that advises the European Commission on the development of an EU taxonomy for green activities and the EU Green Bond Standard. Additionally, ICMA publishes various publications, including the recent compendium of international policy initiatives and best market practice for sustainable finance.
