The Green Finance Platform welcomes the SOAS Centre for Sustainable Finance as a new partner in green finance knowledge.
Established at University of London’s School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), the Centre for Sustainable Finance (CSF) is an interdisciplinary research hub bringing together researchers from a range of disciplines, including economics and finance, public policy, development and environmental studies. The CSF addresses issues including green financial governance, climate and environmental risk for public and corporate investors, and financing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The CSF is part of the Global Research Alliance for Sustainable Finance and Investment. It is host to the Climate and Sustainable Finance Data Initiative SUFINDA, a unique data project combining relevant country information, multi-level and multi-sectoral financial data and assessment of progress towards the SDGs, climate change mitigation and adaptation. SUFINDA’s global database will enable researchers, investors and practitioners to assess not only how much public and private money is flowing to developing and transition economies, but also to better understand which business models prove most effective, why money flows to certain places, how to assess enabling frameworks and regulation as well as barriers to action.
The SOAS Centre for Sustainable Finance seeks to develop cutting-edge knowledge and understanding of climate and sustainable finance in both the Global North and South and acts as a focal point for economic and policy debates in this area.
Researchers at the centre are working with national and international partners on a range of topics, with funding from different institutions. Research is built around five research areas:
