The Green Finance Platform welcomes the Sustainable Infrastructure Foundation (SIF) as a new partner in green finance knowledge.

SIF is a not-for-profit Swiss foundation that coordinates the provision of SOURCE, a global platform for quality infrastructure led and funded by multilateral development banks (AFDB, ADB, EBRD, EIB, IDB and the World Bank).

SOURCE offers a comprehensive map of all aspects to develop quality and sustainable infrastructure, covering governance, technical, economic, legal, financial, environmental and social issues. It uses sector-specific sets of questions covering all the stages of the project cycle, spanning from project definition to operation and maintenance with the objective to strengthen the capacity of project developers.

SOURCE provides:

  • Project preparation management (standardized approach for decision-making)
  • Infrastructure intelligence solution (delivery of international tools and standards, project information and knowledge management)
  • Pipeline of well-prepared projects (“common language” with the private sector)

SOURCE is currently being used for 312 projects across 54 countries and by 2,613 users.

SIF-SOURCE has also been associated with different initiatives that focus on financing the infrastructure gap. SIF is a partner of the Sustainable Infrastructure Fellowship Program, which offers academic and practical training for senior public-sector infrastructure managers from emerging markets. By better aligning the expectations of planners and investors, the fellowship seeks to build capacity and help close the infrastructure gap. Recently, SIF signed a cooperation agreement with the Carbon Disclosure Project with the aim to strengthen the ability of cities to develop climate-resilient infrastructure projects and to communicate those projects to the financial sector.

SOURCE’s ultimate goal is to foster the development of sustainable projects that contribute to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development globally and strengthen cooperation among global infrastructure stakeholders – multilateral development banks, development-financing institutions, investors, consultancy firms, contractors and lenders.
